Jacques Dequeker has a truly wonderful story. Born in Brazil, of a French mother, his aesthetic sensibilities reflect an international èlan of both elegance and ease. He credits his tenacity and strength of character to his mother's fine example of never giving up.

Jacques' formal education is in architecture and industrial design; although a passion for the sport of boxing had him contemplating this as a profession. In the end, his natural sense of spatial reasoning and mechanics combined with a keen understanding of human dynamics made photography a natural choice. As you will see in his imagery; his timing is impeccable.

Self-taught, Jacques has made incredible strides as a professional photographer. Within one year he landed his first cover. Since 2000, he has amassed over one hundred editorials and covers. In 2002 he won the coveted Brazilian Association of Textile Industry award for best fashion photographer (an unprecedented event). His ability as an image maker is only surpassed by his incredibly positive demeanour. The covers, editorial, and advertising examples featured here show the depth of his clientele roster.

His chief influences are Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Horst, and Man Ray.

When not travelling for work, he spends his time mainly between New York and Sao Paolo, where he enjoys surfing, deep scuba diving, and the art of boxing.
